SERDANG – The launching ceremony for UPM 50 Years Sculpture, Alumni Information System (AIS) and Buggy PutraBiz@Alumni was held on 14 January 2022. 

Alumni Relations Centre UPM was given the responsibility to carry out the highly anticipated ceremony among University Putra Malaysia community as the 50 Years sculpture will be symbolic of the UPM 50 Years Celebrations (1971-2021) was successfully built in front of the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Cultural and Arts Centre (PKKSSAAS) Main Hall.

The sculpture will become a monument of pride among the UPM community to manifest the success throughout its long journey of establishment as an internationally reputable university.

The construction cost amounted to RM19,000.00, of which RM15,000.00 was contributed from Selangor First Minister and RM4,000.00 was contributed from the collection of UPM Alumni Golden Fit 2021 participation fees.

Alumni Information System (AIS) was developed by Alumni Relations Centre to collect and update UPM alumni data and profiles comprehensively and efficiently. This portal aims to ensure that alumni information and profiles are always up-to-date, active and easily accessible for the purpose of dissemination and publicity of numerous activities and programmes organised by UPM. Through this portal, alumni may also catch on to the latest activities organised by UPM, Alumni Relations Centre and UPM Alumni Association.

PutraBiz@Alumni Buggy was sponsored by Mohd Norashedy Ab Rashid, UPM alumni class of 1994, 2004 for students especially Chapter Student Ambassador (CSA) to support them generate income through their programme. PutraBiz@Alumni buggy was the first to be carried out between university and alumni. Previously, the collaboration was often done for the purpose of scholarships and others, but the buggy sponsorship is for CSA and other students to develop talents in entrepreneurship.

Among the VIP attended the ceremony was UPM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Prof. Dr. Arifin Abdu, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof. Dr. Nazamid Saari, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Industry and Community Relations) Prof. Ir. Dr. B.T. Hang Tuah Baharudin, UPM Alumni Association President, Dato’ Raihan Sharif, Alumni Relations Centre Director and Deputy Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arba’ie Sujud, Fahmi Azar Mistar and PutraBiz@Alumni Buggy sponsor, Mohd Norashedy Ab Rashid.

UPM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman said, the construction of UPM 50 Years Sculpture was a priceless symbol.

"I would like to express my gratitude to Yang Amat Berhormat Menteri Besar of Selangor, Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari alumni class of 2002 for the contributions through UPM Alumni Golden Fit programme. Through this program, Alumni Relations Centre was able to realize the construction of the UPM 50 Years sculpture. Apart from being symbolic in conjunction with the 50 Years Golden Jubilee Celebrations, the sculpture construction is also a manifestation for alumni giving back. In addition, the Alumni Information System (AIS), developed by Alumni Relations Centre, is the best initiative for an easy profile updating system and to stay connected and contribute back to alma mater.”
