SERDANG – Through Menggamit Seribu Kenangan: Alumni Reunion (MEKAR) programme, a Touch Rugby Hamdan Cup was held at Rugby Field B, Universiti Putra Malaysia.   

The name of the Hamdan Cup was taken in conjunction with the memory and service of the late Serdang Angels captain, Norsuhaimy Jamaluddin or better known as ‘Hamdan’.

The 2022 Touch Rugby Hamdan Cup (Serdang Angels Hamdan Cup) was a brainchild of the Serdang Angels Alumni especially the 90s batch to commemorate the contributions and values exerted by the late Hamdan. He was a captain for a number of Serdang Angels which held strong team principles, professionalism and brotherhood.     

Importantly, through this programme, it has the opportunity for alumni from Serdang Angels to contribute back to alma mater through the 1 Alumni 1 Sumbangan Ringgit (1A1SR) fund, Alumni Scholarship and Putra Cakna: Alumni Care Heart to Heart (H2H) to enliven UPM 50 Years Golden Jubilee Celebrations (1971-2021).  

Wan Muhammad Aiman Wan Mohd Marzuki received a laptop from Serdang Angels alumni in an effort to assist students in need. Alumni Relations Centre thanked the alumni for their contributions and at the same time demonstrated the value of togetherness in order to realise the university’s aspiration in producing outstanding and high-spirited graduates.    

Among the honourable guests attended the programme were, University Board of Directors Chairman, Tengku Syarif Laksaman Perli Dato’ Seri DiRaja Syed Razlan Ibni Almarhum Syed Putra Jamalulail, UPM Alumni Relations Centre Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arba’ie Sujud, Former Chairman of Pusat Kecemerlangan Sukan Ragbi UPM, Dr. Saidun Amri, Malaysia Touch Association President, Haji Ahmad Sufiani Johari. 

Speaking at the programme, YAM Tengku Syarif Laksamana Perlis, Dato’ Seri DiRaja Syed Razlan welcomed the contribution from alumni to the alma mater mainly to students in need of devices and alumni scholarship. According to him, alumni role in achieving the university’s vision and mission were greatly needed to strive for Malaysia higher education success.

As said by Alumni Relations Centre UPM Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arba’ie Sujud, Alumni Relations Centre welcomes every contribution given by alumni in assisting students and university achieving academic excellence. The role of alumni to the alma mater is continuous to put the institution at the highest level through graduates’ academic and co-curriculum excellence.

The slogan ‘Daripada Alumni kepada UPM’’ was launched during the programme to further enliven the spirit of belonging and togetherness of alumni in giving back to the alma mater.
