Universiti Putra Malaysia 44th Convocation Ceremony after COVID-19 Outbreak

SERDANG – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) held the 44th UPM Convocation Ceremony from 8 to 13 January 2022 at Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Arts and Cultural Centre (PKKSSAAS) Main Hall, UPM. This is the first UPM convocation held prior to COVID-19 which broke out in early 2020.

On 12 January 2022 (Fifth Session), UPM Chancellor, His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah consented to the proclamation of His Highness Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Ir. Muhamad Zohadie Bardaie and Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Syed Jalaludin Syed Salim as UPM Pro-Chancellor for three years effective October 18 2021 to October 17 2024.  

UPM Chancellor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has conferred the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D), Master, Bachelor and Diploma to graduates on the fifth day (12 January, fifth session) at the ceremony.  

A total of 5,695 graduates of various study programmes received their scrolls which comprised 398 Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D), Master’s Degree 1,093, Bachelor 3,544 and Diploma 660 respectively.  

The Chancellor also presented the University Prize which is the Chancellors Gold Medal to Aini Nazihah Hasin@Hassan from the Bachelor of Physics with Honours, Faculty of Science. Aini Nazihah is also a recipient of Yayasan Pak Rashid (YPR) Alumni Scholarship; Royal Education Award to Putera Mohamad Iskandar Jamil, Bachelor of Horticulture Science from Faculty of Agriculture and Chow Heng Yee, Bachelor of Human Development Science from Faculty of Human Ecology on 12 January 2022.

The Convocation Ceremony also beheld eleven graduates from the Master of Entrepreneurship first batch on 8 January 2022 (first session).

Meanwhile, among the national athletes who graduated in this convocation session were Syed Syafiq Syed Cholan (Hockey), Nur Fatihah Mohammad Tahir (Shooting), Mohamed Farhan Hafsyam Zahid (Athletics), Priyashankari Hari Sankar (Karate), Muhamad Hafzan Bakri Md Roni (Rugby), Dzafran Asyraf Zainuddin (Rugby), and Muhammad Kamal Ishak (Takraw).

The convocation ceremony celebrates the graduates which bear important agenda in the UPM Strategic Plan 2021-2025; to support the aspiration through Goal 1: Producing Resilient Graduate Characters in Facing the Challenges.
